You walk through the peaceful Parkbuurt neighbourhood. No busy seafront right outside the door — but you're there in no time whenever you want to be.

Start with a walk through the dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, then enjoy lunch at a beach pavilion, and end the day with the sunset on the south beach. Walkers will find routes of a few hours, and surfers will find a friendly wave at Tijn Akersloot. For city trips, the train takes you to Haarlem in 10 minutes and to Amsterdam Centraal in 30 minutes.

• Car: about 30 minutes from Amsterdam via the A9/N200.
• Parking: paid on-street parking applies from 10:00 to 22:00. We recommend the De Zuid car park, 850 metres from the hotel.
• Schiphol: by train with one change (at Amsterdam Sloterdijk or Haarlem).
